Sleeping Beauty Mountain With Snow!

This is Sleeping Beauty Mountain, the infamous turquoise mountain. This mountain is about 45 minutes from my home in the far southeast part of the Phoenix Valley. This is looking at it from the head down to the feet. You can't get the effect of the sleeping beauty which is what the mountain is known for. Isn't it beautiful with the snow on it?

What people don't realize is that it isn't a mine where you go into the side of a mountain or underground. The Sleeping Beauty Mine is just a side of the mountain that they blast part of it away and then they pull out the precious turquoise stones. The Sleeping Beauty Mountain was originally mined for copper and gold, but now the mine is closed to the public and mined solely for the turquoise. The mine was one of the largest producers in the world of turquoise. But now it only produces amounts of very small nuggets all of which need to be hardened.

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is solid stone, no matrix and ranges in color from royal blue to a very light sky blue. To find natural Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is rare now a days. Most turquoise out there has been treated in some sort of way. So it is important that you know what you are looking at and who the seller is. Natural stone has not be changed in any way. The Stablilized stone has been saturated with a hard colorless acrylic or plastic to harden the stone and prevents it from changing colors from body oils and other chemicals. Then there are the Treated stones, they are stabilized and then color enhanced.

We also have Kingman and Bisbee Turquoise in the state. The Kingman Turquoise is still being mined, but the Bisbee Turquoise is not. So if you find any turquoise from the Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee, then you really do have a rare piece of turquoise. The Copper Queen Mine is for another day, it has a long histroy in world of copper and turquoise.

Hope you all have a great week, and Happy New Year!

Peace~

It's Snowing!

Good Morning!

We've got snow, well, not here exactly, but up north. The Flagstaff and Grand Canyon area have gotten over a foot of snow as well as other areas in the northern part of the state. The ski resorts, yes we have four ski resorts in the state, are opening this weekend. Down here in the valley, we've had a lot of rain and we'll take it! We need it dearly! But with this little storm system that went through, it's made it more like Christmas, unlike last year when it was very balmy! We had to turn the AC down just to have the fireplace on. LOL! So now that it's more like Christmas, I think I might get out and do some shopping. ;-) Ok.....just kidding. I've just about finished with that last weekend. This weekend I'm baking, just a little. Don't do much of that anymore either.

At any rate, I'm taking a much needed break. I won't be around much for the rest of the year. I'm going to be enjoying my family.

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Peace~

Procrastinator.....Who me?

Who procratinates here? The word procratinate; to put off, to delay. Oh, hummm.....none of us here do that, right? I always have all my ducks in a row, well except for maybe one. At least I don't loose them. The best well laid plans don't always come to fruition, do they? Well, I know my plans don't always come to completion as hard as I try sometimes.

Ok, I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet. Have you? I know I'm not the only one out there, or am I? Aaaa, isn't Christmas in LESS than two weeks? Maybe I should go to the stores. I just HATE shopping, unless it's for myself of course! LOL! And then who doesn't like shopping, right? It was both my daughters birthdays last week, so I just can't seem to get in the spirit of shopping until I'm done with their birthdays. Even though they are adults, married and have children of their own, it's just out of line to think of shopping when their birthdays are upon us. Which brings up another point, why did I have two daughters in the same month, two days apart, and why on earth in December? I swear, I didn't have a thing to do with that! I did get that question for years from them also, why did they have to share their birthdays with each other. Why were their birthdays in December? Gee Mom, couldn't you plan better? They both swore they wouldn't do that to their children, but now one daughter has two children born in June, 10 days apart and the other daughter had twins the first time around. I guess they didn't plan either.

So, back to Christmas shopping...I'm going to start it tomorrow. Seriously, with the economic times that we find ourselves in, we aren't buying gifts for the family. We had a family meeting and we've all decided that we don't need anything. We've pooled our money together and are helping a family in our Church who have four children and not a penny to their names. They both have college degrees but both were laid off of their jobs. Jobs here in AZ are scarce to say the least, as I'm sure they are across this country. But the children don't need to suffer. Since we've started our plan here, we've gotten many people in the our families and friends to join in. We've ended up with a beautiful little nest egg for this family. We are really going shopping tomorrow for them. The young man told us if he gets a job soon, which he's been applying for many, he will pay us all back. We told him to pay it forward to another family in need. Lord knows there are many families in need today.

So I guess it's time to stop the procrastinating and get with the program. Really, I can't wait to go shopping tomorrow. It'll be a family thing, that will be fun. Just wish the temperatures were a bit cooler, it'll feel more like Christmas, not like living in the desert! LOL! Oh, and we will be buying for our own grandchildren, we wouldn't want them to think Grandma and Grandpa are complete looney toons! LOL!

Have a great day!

Peace~

After Thanksgiving Sale!

Hello Everyone!

For all of you who live in the states, I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now it's time to get ready for the big one! Christmas! Yep, it's almost here!

I had a One Man Show today and did pretty well considering it was for only two hours. I was a bit reluctant at first to even do the show. But at my sister's urging, I did it. With the economy like it is, I didn't think anyone would want to spend the money on jewelry. That normally wouldn't be considered a priority in these days and times. So I was a bit blown away by the success of the show today. Except for the few orders that I got today, the things that sold today were for gifts for someone else. So I think people are out there buying, just not as much as in the past and not for themselves.

I am offering a special from now through this Sunday. A "Buy One Get One At Half Off". Buy your first item at regular price and then your second item of equal or lesser value is 50% off. You can't beat that! So come on in and take a look around, you just might find something for that special person in your life. Maybe even something for yourself!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Peace and God Bless

Thank Goodness The Weekend Is Here!

Hello Everyone!

Man, it's been very busy around here for the past few weeks. I've had to put in a lot of overtime at work. Good when the paycheck comes in, but not so good in my personal time. Which there seems to be none of lately! LOL! I'll try and keep up in the near future.

I hope you all have had a good week. We still are in the 80's here, so no real winter weather yet. It's kind of late in coming this year. With our luck, it'll be cold on Thanksgiving day and Christmas and that's about it! LOL! I really don't like living here! Don't like the desert!

I have listed several new things this past week and hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get the rest listed. I've already sold a couple of the new items too. I'm happy!

Hope you all have an awesome weekend! Hope you come by and take a peek at my etsy shop.

God Bless,
Donna

I'VE BEEN TAGGED!

Hello Everyone!

Oh dear! I've been tagged by two of my dear sweet friends, Vicki of Orion Designs, and Robin of Bead Nest Designs. I wasn't sure at first what to do, but after reading both their blogs I know now I need to post the rules here and then tag seven more people. This is going around blogland and it will be fun to find out some interesing facts about people. So here are the rules.

1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by including links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs.

Now... 7 things about me...

1. I live in the very HOT southwest desert of Arizona....and hate it very much! LOL! I've also lived in Minnesota, Louisiana, and Texas. But I was raised here in Scottsdale, Arizona.

2. My husband and I met while in high school. We started dating when I was a sophmore and he was a junior. We've now been married for 36 years. WOW, I've been with the same man for over 40 years now, including the years before we were married! I must be insane! LOL! Just kidding!

3. I Am a nurse and have worked in the medical field for over 30 years now. I'm ready to retire again, which I was for two years.

4. I have two grown daughters and five grandchildren. I LOVE being a grandma, it's the best of the best! If only I could have done that first before I had the girls!

5. Since I have a very stressful job, my stress relief is my making jewelry. I've done this for many years, just started selling my creations only about 10 years ago.

6. I love to go camping up in the mountains, hiking and fishing. Just give me my fishing pole, some worms and I'll be content for hours! And yes, I can clean a fish in no time flat!

Artisan Beaders Street Team

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all had a great week! We are going into a busy time of the year aren't we? Seems like there is something going every weekend now. I also wanted to let you all know about this awesome street team on Etsy that I'm part of. Check out our blog at, Artisan Beaders Street Team! I'm sure you'll be able to find something you are looking for. We have a Artisan Beaders Holiday Gift Guide also, be sure to check that out too!

This past week has been very busy. We went to San Diego last weekend and I think I've been playing catch up since. Our granddaighter was very ill and ended up in the hospital the week before. She has Lyme Disease and because of the rash from the bite she ended up with cellulitis. She's only five years old, so she was pretty sick for several days in the hospital. So grandma (me) had to go see her and make sure she was ok. It was also her fifth birthday. So we really enjoyed our birthday time with her and just visiting with the rest of the family.

Hope you all have a great week.

Summer Is Over!

Hi Everyone!

I'm sure summer is over for most of you, but here in the desert, we are still in the high 90's to low 100's. It just doesn't seem to want to end. It never does! LOL! I still can swim in my pool and lay out if I wanted to, but I'm not interested in that. I want FALL!!!

I haven't had time to make anything new this week. Been putting in some overtime at work. By the time I get home I'm all pooped out! So this weekend I'm going to get busy and see what I can come up with. I need to relieve some stress! Where's my hammer and some wire? I need to do some pounding! LOL!

My youngest granddaughter was in the hospital this week also. She has Lyme Disease and cellulitis in her leg and foot. She's home now and improving rather quickly. Make me very happy! We are going to San Diego next weekend to celebrate her fifth birthday. Can't wait to see her.

Hope you all have a great weekend and next week.

Donna

Hurricane Ike!

Hello Everyone!

WOW! Such a tremendous storm! I use to live in Houston and New Orleans. I'm so glad that I've left there now and live somewhere that doesn't have natural disasters. BUT, I have very close friends who still so live in these two places. I've lost contact with my friends in Houston now. Some I know have been evacuated to downtown Houston. So many people are without power and it's going to be days before they get power back on. So many have lost everything! Galveston, the Strand, such a pretty historic areas of Galveston Island. They are all under water now. I'm just amazed at how this went right smack over Galveston! Please continue to pray for the people effected by this storm!

Good Morning!

I know some of you are starting to experience the beautiful days of early fall. BUT, here in the desert, we are experiencing a summer that won't go away! It's still in the 100+ temps. It is just dragging on this year, well, like all years really! LOL! Hopefully the temperatures will start to drop enough that it will be cool in the mornings.

I have listed a new pair of earrings yesterday. Very pretty wire wrapped garnets and sterling silver. Come take a peek at my "Cranberry Ice".

Hope you all have a great day! Enjoy the cooler weather!

Still In A Cast!

Hello Everyone!

Well....I'm still dragging this cast around! I did get to ditch the crutches this week, but still have the walking cast on. This is not a good thing in this heat and humidity! Don't EVER injure yourself in the summer months! LOL!

I've also been working a lot, so I haven't had time to get anything listed this week. I promise I will try this weekend. I just need to edit some pictures.

Hope you all are enjoying your summer, it's half over now! Yippeeee, we have only 3 more months of realy hot weather! LOL! Can't wait for the fall.

MADE IT THROUGH ANOTHER WEEK!

Hi Everyone!

Well, I made it through another week, but I still have my new "Best Friends" hanging around. That would be my cast and crutches! LOL! This is not a good thing when it's 110+ outside! I sure hope the rest of the six weeks goes by quickly! I don't make a good patient! :-) My hubby has been a trooper through all this. He's done all the grocery shopping and laundry, but says that he's becoming a housewife! LOL! Welcome to my world!

I will be listing new things this weekend. I've been working all week and then when I get home I have to put my leg up so I haven't been able to get anything done, like photos and listings. So that is my priority for this weekend.

Have a great weekend, see you all later!

Peace,
Donna

STILL HOBBLING AROUND!

Hello Everyone!

I'm still on crutches and with the cast on and it's just not a nice thing to be wearing in the summer heat here in AZ. We now have our monsoons here, so not only is it HOT, but it's humid on top of it. And just about every evening we have a dust storm and then rain. So we end up with just mud everywhere. LOL! But at least it is a change from the glaring sun! :-D

I haven't had much time to create with working and all. But the nurse I'm filling in for should be back soon. Then I should have some time again for myself. I will be listing a new pair of coin pearl earrings tomorrow. So come an by and take a peek!

Hope you all have a great weekend! :-D

Donna

The 4th Surprise! OUCH!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July. Here it was hot like it always is this time of year, but I had a big surprise. I injured my ankle, I have a hairline fracture and a whole lot of tendon and ligament damage. I spent three hours in the ER and didn't get to really enjoy my evening! LOL! I now have an air cast boot up to my knee. This is not very comfortable at all, never would be, but with the fact that it's 8 million degrees outside, it doesn't help! :(

I did manage to list a new necklace. It is made with brass, a nice alternative to gold at a fraction of the cost! It's a great alternative to gold. It is made with Citrine, Garnet and Carnelian gemstones. I named it, The Tigress! Very pretty. So, come on by and take a peek at it.

I hope you all have a great week, see you all soon!

Peace,
Donna

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

Hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!

I do have a few things on sale in my Etsy shop. A group I belong to on Etsy is having a sale, it's called, "Catch A Wave". Here is the link,

http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=tag_title&search_query=ebtw+wave

It's going to be a quiet weekend here. It's really way too hot to do anything. We are going into what we call our Monsoon Season. We not only have the hot temps, but the humidity goes way up. Then we get our dust storms and then the rains. We tend to get a lot of flash floods this time of year to. Since we live way out in the country, we sometimes will get stranded and can't get home or leave our house. The roads are flooded. But we just wait for a while and all the water eventually runs off and we can get moving again. The ground is so baked hard from the sun, that the water can't absorb into the ground, so it just runs off. Then when it does rain, the steam just keeps coming up from the hot ground and roads, kind of freaky! LOL! Yes, the desert is a strange place to live!

Hope you have have a great weekend!

Peace,
Donna

Busy Week!

Good Morning Everyone!

Man, I had a very busy week! I ended up working 48.5 hours this weeks. I'm not use to working that much! LOL! But I sure do like getting that money when it comes in. :) It's also been a hot week here too. But I think we might be moving into monsoon season and the temps seem to drop a little bit, but the humidity goes way up. So we can't win either way! LOL! But at least the sun won't be blazing everyday. There will be some clouds to block it here and there. that does help somewhat!

I'm just hoping with the weekend here that I have time to create. I did get a new pair of earrings listed earlier in the week and I'll be listing another pair in a little bit. I do have some items on sale and will again for the next two weeks. So come on by and take a peek, you might find something you like! :-)

Peace,
Donna

Sunday, June 22, 2008

Hello!

How's everyone doing on this HOT weekend? It was already 115 today at noon! Man, I HATE summers here! Why am I here? I haven't a clue! If it were up to me, I'd be living up on some side of a mountain! With my fishing pole in one hand and my jewelry pliers in the other! Great combination, eh? LOL! Hey, I need to do something while waiting for the fish to bite! :-)

I will be listing some new copper earrings in the next few days. Hope you all can come on by and that a peek.

They are a light to dark bluish gray stone and exhibits light blue flash like reflections on some surfaces of the stones. I then added Swarovski crystals in jet and black diamond ab. All findings are sterling silver.

The earrings that are new are made of copper and freshwater pearls in olive and Swarovski crystals in olivine ab. All findings are genuine copper.

I do have more, but I need to get busy and get them edited. Hope you all have a great weekend and check back frequently, you never know what you might find.

Wonderful Weekend!

Hello Everyone!

WOW, I had a great weekend. I had sent out a newsletter and four of my past customers came and bought quite a few things from me. Thank you very much everyone!

Then we went Sunday and spent the day up at one of our lakes boating. We've been having warms temps lately, like in the low 80's, but on Sunday morning when we got up it was cold. It was only suppose to get to 68, and that's about what it did . The lake temp was 54, very cold. But we had a wonderful time and came back home all tired out! LOL!!! I was a bit concerned about the grandkids, so we kept a close eye on them. The snakes are coming out now and you never know when you'll see or hear one! Not a pleasant sight!

I do have some new earrings and a necklace to list and I'll be getting that done this week. Please stop by my etsy shop, you just might find something you can't live without!

Hope you all have a great day!

God Bless

Long time no see!

Hello Everyone!

I've been working a lot lately and things just get behind when that happens. So, I'll try and catch up here now.

I have some new things listed on Etsy. I'll post the pictures and link below. I hope you all get a chance to take a peek at my site.

It's been really warm here lately too. So much for winter for us in the desert! Summer is just around the corner. It was 80 here today and it's suppose to be 81 tomorrow. :( I hope those of you who are still buried under mounds of snows will be able to enjoy some spring weather soon.

Peace,
Donna

Tucson Bead Shows

Hello Everyone!

I went to the Tucson Bead Shows last week. I spent four days down in Tucson and had the most awesome time at the shows! I am very fortunate that I live only about an hour from Tucson and that I also have an Aunt who lives in Oro Valley. Oro Valley is just north of Tucson. So I not only had a wonderful visit with my Aunt, I got to see the beads shows too and get some lovely gemstones. I also was fortunate to meet with some online frineds while down there. I meet up with Susan of (cserpent) who is in TBO on ebay with me and EtsyBead on Etsy. She and her Mother and I had lunch together several days while down there. I was lucky to meet up with Vicki of (vickiorion) from EtsyBead. We had a wonderful visit too. I then found Sharon from (matursuksema) and had the most enjoyable talk with her and her daughter. Then I ran into Heather Davis of the famous Blissful Garden Beads. What a beautiful young lady. Very talented!

I wish everyone had the opportunity to go to Tucson some year when the shows are on. They are really awesome, something to see to believe. There are shows all over the city, the whole city turns into the big Bead Show! LOL! It's fantastic!

I better get busy beading with my new beads! :-) Happy Valentine's Day!

God Bless,
Donna
